LOTF Compare and Contrast

The movie Lord of the Flies by Harry Hook to the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding were really different. In the movie, the captain was with them on the island, the choir kids in the movie book are British while in the movie they are all Americans , and Simon never talked with the pigs head.

In the movie, Lord of the Flies, by Harry Hook, the littlun with the birthmark on his face never died while in the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding he did. In the book William did it to show the kids irresponsibility and how they didn't know anything about living by themselves; while in the movie the littlun never died and we could not see how their irresponsibility lead to chaos which lead to murder.

In the book, the choir boys are British which automatically gives them a sense of purity and a connection with religion, and as the story goes along they start committing sins, like hurting other, bullying, and even killing; in addition in the book the fact that the kids were part of a choir (church), makes it even more shocking since they are the first ones to become savages. In the movie the kids are all Americans which gives the audience a hint that they are all already connected to more of the adult world, like wars and violence. The change from the kids into being savages is more shocking with the choir than regular American boys.

The pig is a symbol of evil and consequences of their savage in both the movie and the book; but in the book Simon talks to the pig making it clear for the readers that the pig represents the devil and the beast, since the pig says Simon should be afraid to him. While in the movie Simon never actually talked to the pigs head only saw it, which makes it harder to the audience understand the pig's head real meaning other than just a gift to the beast.

In conclusion to all of this essay, I would say that the movie is missing many of the important scenes that the book has, and as almost all cases the book is always going to be better than the movie because of the fact that the book includes details that the movie won't show and how the book can be more dramatic and sentimental than movies. I would recommend the book better than the movie because most of the reasons said before.
